Man Fleeing Police Crashes into Home and Kills Sleeping Woman
SENECA, South Carolina — A 19-year-old man faces several criminal charges after crashing into a woman’s home and killing her while she slept. Fox News Carolina reported that the 19-year-old driver fled from South Carolina Highway Patrol while attempting to avoid a license check at a roadblock. Officers gave chase, and the teenager drove off of a road, upon a grass hill and lawn of a home and then plowed through the brick wall of the home. The car landed in the basement of the home, on top of the woman who made her bedroom in the basement, killing her instantly. The man then ran out of the home and tried to run from police. Officers apprehended the man after a foot pursuit. CBS 17 reported that the Oconee County Coroner stated the accident happened at 11:37 p.m. The Oconee Sheriff’s office, with assistance from the Greenville County Sheriff’s office.*
South Carolina Highway Patrol officers levied several charges against the man who sped away from the licensing checkpoint on Wells Highway including driving while under license suspension, refusing to stop for a police officer, and running from blue lights with death resulting. Oconee County sheriff’s deputies charged the driver with hit and run resulting in death. Highway patrol officers arrested the driver of the Crown Victoria that sped away from the license roadblock after a foot chase when the man ran from the wreckage of the home he destroyed and the life he took. A judge refused to set an appearance bond on the 19-year-old man at his first court appearance, even though the suspect apologized to the victim’s family at the hearing.
The 37-year-old woman who was killed lived in the home with her mother and her grandmother. She was a casting director who worked on large scale television and movie projects in the Carolinas.
