July 06, 2019

BAINBRIDGE, GA. – According to an online news report posted at wctv.tv, a hit-and-run vehicle accident on Faceville Highway in Bainbridge, Georgia, ended in police making an arrest. The suspected driver of a vehicle reportedly struck several other cars and then stopped and left the scene on foot.*

The incident occurred during the afternoon near downtown Bainbridge. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and WCTV report that a vehicle (make and model not reported) traveled into the county by way of Faceville Highway, heading north at about 3:30 p.m. The driver was reportedly traveling more than 100 mph.

At multiple points on the highway, according to authorities, the driver left the roadway and struck vehicles. The driver hit several vehicles in downtown Bainbridge. It is not clear what caused any of these accidents. Bainbridge Public Safety says that the driver then traveled to Chason Park, where he abandoned the vehicle and ran away from the scene on foot.

The news report does not say whether the driver or anyone else sustained injuries during the incident. The report also does not say whether the driver was alone in the vehicle. Deputies and Georgia State Patrol immediately began looking for the missing suspect and categorized the incident as a hit-and-run.

The following afternoon, the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office located a suspect, identified as a man from Quincy, Florida, and placed him under arrest. They reportedly found him at an address on Dempsey Road. At the time the WCTV report was posted online, charges against the man had not been formally announced, and investigation was still ongoing.
