Motorcycle Accident in Harnett County, North Carolina, Tragically Kills Georgia Paratrooper
HARNETT COUNTY, NC. – According to a news report posted online at fayobserver.com, a motorcycle accident in Harnett County, North Carolina, tragically killed a paratrooper from Georgia. Officials at Fort Bragg have confirmed information about the accident, which occurred off post near Spout Springs, North Carolina.*
The accident took place during the early morning near Nursery Road. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and The Fayetteville Observer report that at approximately 2:20 a.m., a motorcycle was traveling in the area and came to a curve in the roadway. The name of the roadway was not included in the news report.
Troopers said the motorcycle was traveling at about 90 mph, but the news report did not list the speed limit for the roadway. A disabled car was sitting on the side of the road near the curve, where it had been parked for several hours. Authorities indicate the motorcycle crashed into the disabled car as it attempted to negotiate the curve in the road.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that the motorcyclist was tragically killed in the accident. He was identified as a 29-year-old staff sergeant from Columbus, Georgia. Fort Bragg confirmed that he was an electronic warfare specialist and an “invaluable member of the Falcon Brigade.” He joined the Army in 2010 and had been at Fort Bragg since 2011.
It does not appear that anyone was inside of the parked car that the victim ran into or that any passengers were on the victim’s motorcycle at the time of the crash. No other injuries were reported. North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating.
