Teenager Tragically Killed in Car Accident on Hwy 16 in Newnan, Georgia
NEWNAN, GA. – According to a news report posted online at times-herald.com, a teenager was tragically killed in a car accident on Highway 16 in Newnan, Georgia. Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation and has not yet released information about the cause of the collision or whether charges will be pursued.*
The accident took place in the area of Dr. Elliot Road and Highway 16 in Newnan. Georgia State Patrol and The Newnan Times-Herald report that a Toyota Celica was headed eastbound on Wagers Mill Road and attempted to get to Dr. Elliot Road by crossing Highway 16. A northbound Dodge Durango then crashed into the Toyota.
Upon impact, the Toyota traveled about 140 feet and came to an uncontrolled stop north of the crash site. The Dodge turned over on its driver’s side in the shoulder of the roadway. The news report does not indicate which vehicle had the right-of-way at the time of the accident or what caused the accident to occur.
The Newnan Times-Herald reports that the driver of the Toyota was seriously injured and taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, where he tragically died. The Coweta County Coroner’s Office identified him as a 16-year-old male. The news report states that he was a junior at Newnan High School. It does not appear that any passengers were in his vehicle.
The Newnan Times-Herald further reports that the driver of the Dodge sustained unknown injuries and was taken to Tanner Medical Center. He was identified as a 27-year-old man from Douglasville, Georgia.
Troopers are still in the process of investigating the wreck and had not released further information at the time of the news report’s publishing.
