Single-Vehicle Wreck on U.S. 41 in Naples, Florida, Tragically Kills Woman
NAPLES, FL. – According to an online news report published at naplesnews.com, a single-vehicle wreck that occurred on U.S. Highway 41 in Naples, Florida, tragically killed a woman. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are still investigating the accident and trying to determine how the accident occurred.*
The collision happened in the 12000 block of U.S. 41. Florida Highway Patrol and Naples Daily News report that a Hyundai Entourage was traveling southbound on the highway and suddenly veered to the left. The vehicle then went into the median of the roadway, crashed into several trees, and rolled over. It came to a stop on its roof inside of the median.
It is not clear what caused the driver of the Hyundai to veer away from his lane and drive into the median. Troopers investigating the case have not identified any potential factors leading to the accident or events surrounding the collision.
Naples Daily News reports that a passenger in the Hyundai was airlifted from the scene to Lee Memorial, where she tragically died of her injuries. The report identifies her as an 85-year-old woman from Fort Myers, Florida.
Naples Daily News further reports that the driver of the Hyundai sustained injuries and was transported to North Collier Hospital. He was identified as an 81-year-old man from Fort Myers. His injuries were described as minor.
The collision caused all of the southbound lanes on the highway to close down, in addition to almost all of the northbound lanes. The roadway remained blocked for some time as crews investigated at the scene. Investigation is ongoing.
