Pedestrian Tragically Killed When Hit by Semi-Truck on U.S. 441 in Alachua County, Florida
ALACHUA COUNTY, FL. – According to a news story reported online at news4jax.com, a pedestrian was tragically killed when he was hit by a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 441 in Alachua County, Florida. The details of the accident are still not completely clear, and Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.*
The accident happened in the morning by Northwest 202nd Street on U.S. 441. Florida Highway Patrol and News 4 Jax report that a semi-truck was traveling north on the highway at about 10:30 a.m. and somehow ran into a pedestrian in the northbound lanes. The report did not say where the pedestrian was walking prior to the collision but said he entered the north lane of travel.
It is unclear whether the pedestrian was attempting to cross the highway, and the report indicated investigators did not yet know why he was walking on the highway. Authorities have not released information about what events led to the collision.
News 4 Jax reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the accident. Investigating officials identified him as a 70-year-old man from Fort White, Florida.
The driver of the semi-truck was not identified, and News 4 Jax indicates that he or she was not injured. It is not clear if the driver was working for a carrier, and the report does not say whether anyone else was inside the truck when the accident took place.
