Truck, Camper Overturn on I-75 in Collier County, Florida

COLLIER COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report published online at nbc-2.com, a truck towing a camper overturned on Interstate 75 in Collier County, Florida. No injuries were reported in the news story, and authorities reportedly issued a citation to the driver of the truck in connection with the incident.*

The incident happened in the evening on I-75 East near mile marker 98 and State Road 951. Florida Highway Patrol and NBC 2 report that a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on the interstate while pulling a camper trailer. For reasons not reported, the driver of the Chevy lost control of the vehicle, and the truck began to rotate. 

Troopers indicate that the truck then turned onto its driver’s side on the interstate, and the camper also overturned onto its left side. The truck collided with a guardrail, as well. Authorities did not immediately provide details about the events leading to the collision, but NBC 2 reports that the driver of the truck was cited for careless driving. 

No injuries were reported by NBC 2. It is unclear if the driver was the only person inside the truck at the time of the crash. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old woman from Miami, Florida. She was also cited for failure to provide proof of insurance, according to the news report. 

Crews shut down a portion of the interstate after the wreck to clear the area and investigate. It is not clear how long the roadway remained closed, but all lanes reportedly reopened around 1 a.m. At the time of the news report’s posting online, Florida Highway Patrol had not released additional information.
