Vehicle Accident Outside Kroger in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Tragically Kills One Person
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – According to an online news story posted at cbs46.com, a vehicle accident that occurred outside of a Kroger store in Lawrenceville, Georgia, tragically killed one person. The news report indicates that bystanders passing by the location stopped and pulled the man from his vehicle, which had caught on fire after the wreck.*
The Gwinnett County Police Department states that the wreck happened at night outside of a Kroger location on Buford Drive. A 69-year-old man was leaving the Kroger store at about 9:30 p.m. and attempted to pull out near Russell Road in his pickup truck. Police officers said that the man did not yield to oncoming traffic and crashed into a van.
After the impact, the man’s truck caught on fire, and he was trapped inside. Bystanders in the area saw the incident and freed the man from his vehicle before emergency responders got to the scene. CBS 46 reports that EMS then transported the man to a local hospital, where he tragically died from his injuries. He was identified as a resident of Gwinnett County.
The news report says that the man was the only person in the truck. There were five people inside the van, according to CBS 46, and they were all injured in the wreck. It is not clear if they were all taken to hospitals for treatment, but the news report says that their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The accident is still under investigation with the Gwinnett County Police Department. Officers have not reported on the official cause of the wreck but said that they did not believe alcohol or speeding played a role.
