No Charges Expected in in Accident Close to Chattanooga National Cemetery

CHATTANOOGA, TN – According to an online news report at newschannel9.com, a 61-year-old man tragically died and another sustained injuries in an accident that occurred close to Chattanooga’s National Cemetery earlier this week.*

The accident happened at the intersection of South Holtzclaw Avenue and Bailey Avenue.  The vehicles involved in the wreck sustained major damage.

A spokesperson from the Chattanooga Police Department indicated that a Ford Taurus was going south on South Holtzclaw Avenue when the 61-year-old driver failed to stop at a right light located at Bailey Avenue.  At this time, the spokesperson noted that a Volvo S60 was going westbound through the intersection at a green light.  The Volvo S60 was t-boned by the vehicle driven by the 61-year-old.  

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene where they found the 61-year-old driver of the Ford Taurus dead.  The Chattanooga Police Department have provided that they are trying to ascertain what specifically happened.

“We are looking at all factors of the crash itself,” says a lieutenant from the Chattanooga Police Department. “We are specifically looking into whether or not there was any type of distracted driving and whether or not someone ran a traffic light.”

Police have provided that the other driver of the Volvo S60 sustained injuries but their status is now known at this time.  The person is not expected to face charges in the accident.

The accident caused closes of all lanes of traffic at the intersection while emergency personnel worked the scene.  All lanes are no open once again.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
