Tragic, Fatal Two-Vehicle Accident Occurs on Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, Georgia
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – According to a news report published online at ajc.com, a fatal two-vehicle accident occurred on Buford Drive in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Police officers reported that one person was tragically killed, and several people were injured in the wreck, which is still under investigation by local authorities.*
The accident happened in the late evening near Russell Road on Buford Drive. The Gwinnett County Police Department and the Atlanta Journal Constitution report that a white Ford Ranger was pulling out of the parking lot at a Kroger shopping center and attempted to cross Buford Drive.
In crossing Buford, the Ford collided with a Honda Odyssey that had been traveling south on the roadway. Upon impact, both vehicles traveled over to near a guardrail, where they came to a rest. The circumstances of the accident have not been fully reported, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution states that the driver of the Ford failed to yield.
According to the news report, the Ford caught on fire after the collision, and bystanders freed the driver from the vehicle. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that emergency crews took the Ford driver to a local hospital, and he tragically died from his injuries. He was identified as a 69-year-old man.
Five people were traveling in the Honda, including four passengers and the 37-year-old driver. All five people sustained injuries in the wreck, according to the report, and they were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not reported.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating, and officers reportedly said that alcohol and speeding were not suspected factors in the crash.
