Man Faces Multiple Criminal Charges for Killing Woman in DWI Accident

GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – As reported online by, a 30-year-old man faces multiple serious criminal charges for causing an accident while driving under the influence that left one woman dead.*

A 30-year-old man, who was under the influence of alcohol, was traveling west on Lees Chapel Road in Greensboro, North Carolina when his SUV crossed the center line and ran off the road.  The man subsequently struck a utility pole and a woman before the vehicle came to a stop. The 38-year-old woman who fell victim to this DWI accident sustained fatal injuries.

The 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder, felony death by vehicle, and driving while impaired.  The man is currently being held at the Guilford County jail with a $1 million bond.

North Carolina Accident Statistics

According to crash data released by the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles, the number of bicycle accidents increased by approximately 87.6 percent from 2016 to 2017.  Additionally, the number of pedestrians killed in traffic accidents increased by one percent from 2016 to 2017.  Many accidents also involve distracted driving, such as texting or using a hand-held cell phone while driving.  Alcohol certainly plays a role in some bicycle and pedestrian accidents that leave victims severely injured or killed.

In 2017, Greensboro saw more than 11,000 traffic accidents, and 42 of these accidents involved fatalities while more than 6,000 involved injuries.  Further, there were approximately 420 traffic accidents in 2017 in Greensboro that involved alcohol, with 13 of these accidents involving fatalities and 342 involving injuries.
