University of Central Florida Student Critically Injured in Tragic Hit-and-Run Accident; Driver Arrested
ORLANDO, FL – According to online news reports at wftv.com and mynews13.com, a University of Central Florida student was struck by a hit-and-run driver close to the university campus, per local police. She sustained serious injuries in the crash.*
A University of Central Florida student is in critical condition after being injured over the weekend by a hit-and-run driver. The suspect, a twenty five year old man, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, driving under the influence with serious bodily injury, driving under the influence with property damage as well as leaving the scene of an accident.
The Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the accident that occurred on Napiers Circle and Pasteur Drive early in the morning over the weekend. Per eyewitnesses of the accident, they indicated to the police that the student was struck by a black Acura.
The driver, later identified as the 25 year old man, left the scene of the crash.
Deputies with Orange County were able to locate the Acura in a parking lot located on University Boulevard. The vehicle had significant damage to its front end and had blood and hair on the windshield that matched the blood and hair of the victim. The vehicle had also been in another hit-and-run accident on Mandal Drive and Alafaya Trail.
When troopers came upon the 25 year old suspect in the Acura, he was slurring speech and struggled to remain upright. He was later arrested and transported to the Orange County Jail.
Per the victim’s father, she may not survive the accident. "She is currently being kept alive by a respirator and is in a coma. Her survival does not appear likely, and if that occurs, we are informed that this case will become a homicide,” her father said.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
