Man Faces DUI Charge Following Head-on Collision that Injured Three
GAINESVILLE, FL – According to online news reports at ajc.com and gainesvilletimes.com, a drunk driver causes a head-on collision that injured three people. The driver is now facing a DUI charge for causing the accident.*
Earlier this week, police were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle accident that occurred in the southerly lanes of Thompson Bridge Road, per the Gainesville police. A 32 year old woman from Gainesville, Florida is currently facing accusations that she was operating a 2016 Cadillac Escalade north on the road but crossed into southbound traffic. This caused the woman to hit into a 2003 Ford Expedition head-on, per a news release from the Gainesville Police.
The driver of the Expedition, a 53 year old man, and a 37 year old female passenger were seriously injured. Their injuries are deemed as non-life threatening, per the news release. A third occupant of the Expedition sustained minor injuries. All three individuals were transported to an area hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.
Both of the southerly lanes and one northerly lane were blocked off to traffic as emergency crews worked the scene.
The thirty one year old driver of the Cadillac Escalade is currently facing charges of DUI as well as the failure to maintain lane. Additional charges are pending. The accident remains under investigation at this time. There are no further details on the accident.
