Two Died Following Church Charter Bus Crash Coming from a Colorado Conference
PUEBLO, CO – According to an online news report at abcnews.go.com, two have died following a charter bus accident that occurred in southern Colorado.*
A charter bus that was transporting fifteen members of a church ran off of the roadway after hitting into a bridge over the weekend. The accident occurred in southern Colorado and caused the death of two people and injuries to several others, per the Colorado State Patrol.
The bus was transporting a charter group from an Albuquerque, New Mexico church. The bus was traveling south on Interstate 25 when the bus hit into a structure of the bridge and left the roadway about ten miles northerly of Pueblo, Colorado, per a state patrol corporal.
The driver of the bus appeared to be suffering from a medical issue that may have contributed to the crash. The driver, whose identity has not been released at this time, was ejected from the bus and died as a result of his injuries. The identity of the other individual who sustained injuries was also not released. Thirteen others on the bus were injured. These injuries vary from non-life threatening to critical.
Per the Pueblo Chieftain, the bus was going back to New Mexico following a church convention in Denver, Colorado. According to the police corporal, they do not have any further information on the New Mexico charter bus. At the crash site, three emergency helicopters and dozens of ambulances and fire rescue personnel responded to the accident which occurred in the mid-afternoon. Six of the injury victims were transported to a local hospital in Pueblo and another six were transported to a local hospital in Pueblo West.
There is no further information on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.
