University of Central Florida Senior in Critical Condition after being Struck by a Hit-and-Run Driver
ORLANDO, FL – According to an online news report at wftv.com, a student from the University of Central Florida is currently fighting for her life after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver close to campus, per the Florida Highway Patrol.*
The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle, a twenty five year old man, appeared in court to face several charges, including a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
Per investigators, the woman, aged twenty one, from Orlando, Florida was hit over the weekend on Napiers Circle and Pasteur Drive close to the University of Central Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the hit-and-run driver was not at the scene of the accident when they came upon it. Police note that the driver hit into another vehicle before striking the woman.
As provided in the incident report, “Orange County Sheriff’s Office located a black Acura at 11850 University Boulevard with damage to the front of the vehicle, consistent with the first traffic crash, and damage to the windshield with blood and hair matching the hair color of the pedestrian at the second traffic crash.”
The hit-and-run driver was located in a parking lot on University Boulevard where he was sleeping and intoxicated.
Per the victim’s father, she may not survive the accident. "She is currently being kept alive by a respirator and is in a coma. Her survival does not appear likely, and if that occurs, we are informed that this case will become a homicide,” her father said.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
