Man Sustains Fatal Injuries in Pensacola Accident Resulting from Head-on Collision
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – According to an online news article published by www.wkrg.com, a man sustained fatal injuries in a head-on collision involving three vehicles.*
A Crestview man was traveling westbound on Sorrento Road near the intersection of Bauer Road when his vehicle crossed the center line of Sorrento Road into the eastbound lanes. The man’s truck collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling eastbound. The impact of the head-on collision caused the Crestview man’s truck to travel to the left shoulder, striking trees, and subsequently catching fire.
A third vehicle involved in the accident was traveling eastbound on Sorrento Road. The driver of the third vehicle failed to observe the initial head-on collision and struck the back of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Crestview man’s injuries were fatal, and the driver of the Grand Cherokee was taken to Baptist Hospital where he is in critical condition. The driver of the third vehicle that struck the back of the Grand Cherokee only sustained minor injuries.
The Dangers of Chain Reaction Accidents
Many accidents that happen on busy streets and highways involve three or more vehicles, and typically happen when one initial accident sets off a domino effect where a second, third, and even fourth accident happens. Law enforcement officials have concluded that the third vehicle involved in the Pensacola accident failed to observe the initial accident. Whether the driver of this third vehicle was impaired, distracted, or committing any other traffic violation, is unclear.
Many chain reaction accidents are preventable if drivers are cautious and aware of their surroundings. Taking an eye off the road even for a split second can prevent a driver from being able to avoid striking a vehicle that has already been involved in an accident.
