Tree Falls Onto I-95 in Bryan County, Leading to Multiple Accidents that Left One Person Dead and Four Others Injured

BRYAN COUNTY, GEORGIA – As reported online by www.wjcl.com and www.wsav.com, one person is dead, and four others injured following multiple accidents on I-95 resulting from a tree falling on the highway.*

At around 1:35 a.m. in the early morning of June 21, 2019, a tree fell onto I-95 in Bryan County, leading to accidents that left one person dead and four others injured.  The tree had fallen in the left lane on northbound I-95, which initiated multiple accidents involving a tractor-trailer and numerous passenger vehicles.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), a tractor-trailer traveling in the left lane of northbound I-95 came across the tree and tried to avoid striking it.  While the driver of the tractor-trailer tried to avoid the tree, the front of his truck ultimately collided with the tree.  The main impact area was the tractor-trailer’s windshield. The tractor-trailer then traveled underneath the tree and rotated counter-clockwise.  The tractor-trailer came to a stop facing southbound in the west emergency lane.

A second vehicle subsequently collided with the tree, shearing off the top of the vehicle. Multiple other vehicles also struck the tree, leading to serious injuries.  Two people were transported by Life Flight to local hospitals.  One of these victims, a woman, later tragically died from her injuries.  The condition of the other victim is unknown, and no details are available regarding the condition of the two additional people who sustained injuries.  The accident is still under investigation.
