Two Children Injured in a Bike Accident in Sarasota, Florida
SARASOTA, Fla. — Two very young children sustained non-life-threatening injuries in a freak bicycle accident in Sarasota, Florida. According to a report appearing on mysuncoast.com, the children, estimated to be approximately toddler age, were riding in a small trailer towed by their father behind their father’s bicycle. The initial reports concerning the accident suggest that the bike struck a curb along a sidewalk. The impact flipped the trailer over and ejected the small children. A medical helicopter rushed the children to the nearest children’s trauma center for treatment of their injuries. Sarasota police, fire, and medics raced to the scene of a bicycle accident around 1:30 Thursday afternoon. Upon arrival, first responders located a bicycle trailing a wagon. The wagon transported two tiny children. The report did not indicate the age of the children but did note that officers described the children as toddlers.
According to the initial report authored by the responding officers, the children’s father was riding his bicycle on 17th Street near the intersection of US 301. The bicycle struck the curb along 17th Street, and the impact threw the children out of the makeshift trailer.
Life Flight helicopters transported both injured kids to All Children’s Hospital. The hospital admitted the children for treatment but said that neither sustained a life-threatening injury. Officials were unable to provide any details on their current medical status.
The accident reconstruction team from the Sarasota Police Department have started an investigation into the cause of the crash. The children's father has not received a summons for the court at this time. Police did not make information available concerning the status of their inquiry.
