Pedestrian Accident Reported on U.S. 301 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story posted online at wrdw.com, a pedestrian accident was reported to have occurred on U.S. Highway 301 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. The pedestrian was injured in the collision, according to the news report, and authorities are still investigating.*
The accident took place in the late evening close to Canaan Road on U.S. 301. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WRDW state that around 10 p.m., a pedestrian was walking north on the side of the highway and was struck by a northbound Ford Taurus. The report did not say whether the vehicle drifted into the shoulder or whether the pedestrian stepped into the northbound lane of travel.
WRDW reports that the pedestrian sustained injuries in the collision and is recovering. It is not clear from the report whether the pedestrian was taken to a local hospital or treated at the scene, and the nature of his or her injuries was not described. The victim’s identifying information has not been released.
No information about the driver of the Ford was included in the report, either. Troopers indicated that the driver was wearing a seat belt, and it appears he or she stayed at the scene. It is not clear if the driver was the only person in the Ford when the accident happened.
