June 22, 2019

STATESVILLE, NC. – According to an online news story reported at cbs17.com, a serious semi-truck crash occurred on Rickert Street in Statesville, North Carolina. Six people were injured in the accident, according to the report, including five children who were riding in a car that collided with the semi-truck.*

The accident happened in the early afternoon at the crossing of Rickert Street and Garner Bagnal Boulevard. The Statesville Police Department and CBS 17 report that at about 12:20 p.m., a car of unknown make and model entered the intersection and drove into the path of a semi-truck. It is not clear which direction each of the two vehicles had been traveling.

The vehicles ended up colliding in the intersection. Authorities did not immediately say what caused the crash or why the driver of the car traveled in front of the truck. It is not clear what factors police might be investigating.

CBS 17 reports that the unidentified driver of the car and five children who were riding in the car were all injured in the wreck. The children’s ages were not released, but the report described them as “small.” The report indicates that the driver and one of the children were transported to a hospital and released after receiving treatment. However, the other four children were airlifted from the scene to Baptist Hospital and are reportedly in critical condition.

The driver of the semi-truck, who was also not identified, was not harmed in the collision. Police are still investigating and say that no charges have yet been filed in the case.
