Wrestling Van Accident on U.S. 231 in Montgomery, Alabama, Causes Injuries to Kids

MONTGOMERY, AL. – According to online news stories reported by wvtm13.com and abc3340.com, a wrestling van accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 231 in Montgomery, Alabama, caused injuries to several kids. The cause of the accident has not been identified, and one child remains hospitalized, according to the reports.*

The accident happened while a team from the Warrior Wrestling Club of Calera, Alabama, was traveling in a van on the highway. It is not yet clear what happened, but the van somehow overturned on U.S. 231, causing multiple injuries to passengers. The reports say that nine people were injured in the collision, and one person’s injuries were considered serious. 

The van involved was a Ford passenger van. The model was not reported. It is unclear if any vehicles other than the van were involved. A photo from the scene posted to the WVTM website shows the van turned back upright with significant damage to the back end and roof. 

It is not clear where the wrestlers were headed at the time. Following the collision, the wrestling club posted a message on social media, which is published on the ABC website, that says:

“WWC would like to thank everyone that has reached out to the organization offering thoughts, prayers, and help. All of the wrestlers, with the exception of one, have been released to their parents. The other is in stable condition and recovering quickly. We ask for continued prayers for a quick recovery for everyone involved. …” 

The statement goes on to say that the names of the injured students would not be released upon request from the families.
