Deadly Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident Reported on Race Track Road in St. Johns County, Florida
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at firstcoastnews.com, a deadly hit-and-run bicycle accident was reported on Race Track Road in St. Johns County, Florida. The accident resulted in the tragic fatalities of two bicyclists, and sheriff’s officers have issued a warrant for the arrest of a suspect, according to the news report.*
The accident happened in the morning by the 5400 block of Race Track Road. The St. Johns Sheriff’s Office and First Coast News report that at about 10 a.m., two women were riding on bicycles in the area and were struck by a vehicle. It is unclear where in the road the bicyclists were riding or what direction they were traveling. The direction the vehicle was headed is also unclear.
First Coast News Reports that the two women on the bikes were tragically killed in the accident. They have not been identified by officials at this time.
After the crash, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The make and model of the vehicle were not reported, nor was a description of the driver. Deputies began searching for the driver and tracked down a man they believed was involved. The suspected driver has been identified as a 37-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida.
Deputies tried to question the suspect, but he refused to speak to them and refused to let them look at his vehicle.
