Boating Accident on Lake Oliver in Columbus, Georgia Injures Seven People
COLUMBUS, GA. – According to a news report posted online at wtvm.com, a boating accident that occurred on Lake Oliver in Columbus, Georgia, injured seven people. The boat driver appears to have lost control and crashed into an eating area on the shore. No one involved in the accident has been identified.*
The accident occurred during the afternoon near the shore on Lake Oliver. Fire Marshal Ricky Shores and WTVM report that a boat measuring 20 feet long was traveling with seven people inside, including the driver. Somehow as the boat approached the marina, the driver lost control. The boat ended up traveling onto the shore and crashing into a picnic space located on the shore.
Photos taken at the scene and posted to the WTVM website show the white boat with significant damage to the front after colliding with a large pillar at the covered picnic area. A portion of the boat can be seen split and wrapped around the pillar.
WTVM reports that all seven people aboard the boat sustained injuries, and emergency responders took them to a local hospital for treatment. Two people’s injuries were described as serious. The extent of the others’ injuries was not reported. No one from the boat was identified.
The Department of Natural Resources will be investigating the crash. Authorities and officials responding to the scene did not immediately report information about what might have caused the driver of the boat to lose control or why the crash occurred. No further details were included in the report from WTVM.
