Tragic, Fatal Crash Occurs on Hayne Stretch Road in Sampson County, North Carolina

June 23, 2019

SAMPSON COUNTY, NC. – According to a news story reported online at clintonnc.com, a tragic, fatal crash occurred on Hayne Stretch Road in Sampson County, North Carolina. The collision was described as head-on and caused the tragic deaths of two teenagers, according to the news story.*

The accident took place in the early morning hours, when a 2009 Pontiac car (model not reported) was traveling on Hayne Stretch Road and somehow left the side of the roadway. North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the Pontiac then over-corrected and re-entered the road, after which the car crossed over the centerline of the roadway.

The Pontiac entered the opposite lane of traffic and ended up colliding head-on with a 2010 Ford SUV (model not reported). This happened at approximately 1 a.m., according to Troopers. It is not yet clear what caused the Pontiac to initially leave the roadway.

The Sampson Independent reports that the 17-year-old female driver of the Pontiac and the 18-year-old passenger were tragically killed in the accident. The driver was reportedly from Autryville, North Carolina, and the passenger was from Roseboro, North Carolina.

In addition, according to the news report, the driver of the Ford was injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital for treatment. She was identified as an 18-year-old woman from Garland, North Carolina. The extent of her injuries is not known.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck. Troopers reportedly said that speeding and alcohol were not suspected factors in the collision.
