Tragic, Fatal Head-On Crash U.S. Highway 158 in Currituck County, North Carolina
CURRITUCK COUNTY, NC. – According to an online news report from 13newsnow.com, a head-on vehicle crash that happened in Currituck County, North Carolina, resulted in three tragic fatalities. Several other people were also injured in the accident, according to the news report.*
The accident happened in the morning on U.S. Highway 158, close to Edgewater Drive in Grandy, North Carolina. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and 13 News Now report that a car was traveling on the highway and somehow crossed over the centerline of the roadway. The vehicle entered traffic bound in the opposite direction and crashed head-on into an SUV.
The makes and models of the two vehicles were not reported. It is not clear at this time what caused the car to enter the other side of the highway. The news report says that the four occupants of the car were returning to Perquimans County, North Carolina, from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, after working an overnight shift at Walmart. Troopers did not say whether driver fatigue played a role in the accident.
13 News Now reports that two of the men in the car tragically died at the scene. The report further states that one of the men was airlifted to Sentara General Hospital, where he tragically died. According to the news report, the fourth man in the car was taken to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center with unknown injuries.
In addition, 13 News Now reports that the two occupants of the SUV were injured in the accident, and they were taken to unnamed hospitals for treatment. The accident is still under investigation by Troopers.
