Two Motorcyclists Died in Accident on Interstate 75 in Marion County
BELLEVIEW, FL – According to an online news report at mynews13.com, two motorcyclists died following an accident with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 75 in Marion County. This resulted in the closure of all northerly lanes at County Road 484 earlier this week.*
Per the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident involved an 18-wheeler and three motorcycles. The accident occurred in the mid-morning.
A man, aged 55 from Italy, and another man also from Italy (his age is not known), died as a result of the accident. The bikers were both riding a 2018 Harley-Davidson FLTRX.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that the fatal crash involved a tractor-trailer and three motorcycles. It was reported at 10:16 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the two motorcyclists were riding ahead of a Volvo 18-wheeler. As traffic slowed down ahead of the motorcyclists, this caused one of the men to lose control of his motorcycle. This eventually caused his motorcycle to be “laid down” on the roadway. During this time, the man tried to avoid hitting the other motorcyclist but lost control, which caused him to also end up in the road. According to the police, both of the men were struck by an 18-wheeler located in the center lane of the roadway. A Subaru Forester then rear ended the semi-truck as a result of the accident that occurred in front of this driver.
The drivers of the 18-wheeler and the Subaru were not hurt in the accident. Due to the crash, traffic became backed up for about six miles close to mile maker 327 while crews worked to clear the wreckage. As of the late afternoon, all lanes of traffic became reopened.
