Driver Facing DUI Charges in Accident that Tragically Caused the Death of a South Carolina Mother and Daughter

June 18, 2019

MCINTOSH COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at thebrunswicknews.com, a man from Rhode Island is facing DUI charges after causing a multiple vehicle accident earlier this week that resulted in the death of a South Carolina mother and daughter in McIntosh County, per the Georgia State Patrol.*

A Rhode Island man is currently being jailed for a DUI that resulted in the death of a South Carolina woman and her daughter on Interstate 95 in McIntosh County, Georgia.

Five vehicles total were in the accident that occurred in the morning earlier this week in the southerly lanes of Interstate 95 due south of the South Newport exit in McIntosh County, per a trooper from the Georgia State Patrol.

The first accident happened when a 2018 Honda Accord hit into the rear end of a 2009 Volvo XC90 sports utility vehicle, which caused both vehicles to lose control.  Once the vehicles came to a rest, the occupants of both exited and went off of the road for safety reasons.  Then, three other vehicles going south on Interstate 95 were involved in a collision at the first accident scene.

At first, a 2007 Dodge Nitro slammed into accident debris on the roadway, causing the vehicle to lose control and hit into the Volvo head-on.  A 2016 Chevy Cruise then hit into the Dodge Nitro and the Volvo. A 2015 Dodge Ram then slammed into the Dodge Nitro.

“Within all these events, there were two passengers of the Volvo who were struck by one or more of the vehicles and died as a result,” according to the Georgia State Patrol.

A mother and daughter from South Carolina, who were the occupants of the Volvo, died as a result of the impact of the crash.

A child in the Dodge Nitro was taken to an area hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.  All other victims of the accident were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

The driver of the Honda Accord was arrested due to being under the influence.
