Motorcycle Accident on I-75 in Ocala, Florida, Results in Tragic Fatalities

OCALA, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a motorcycle accident that occurred on Interstate 75 in Ocala, Florida, resulted in two tragic fatalities. Florida Highway Patrol says two motorcycles were riding together on the interstate and collided with each other while trying to avoid another accident in the roadway.*

The accident took place shortly after 9:30 a.m. near mile marker 343 on I-75 South. Florida Highway Patrol and the Ocala StarBanner report that three motorcycles were traveling in a group on the interstate and came upon an accident in the roadway near County Road 484, outside of Ocala. This accident reportedly involved a Saturn SUV that had crashed into the guardrail. 

Traffic was slowing down around the accident, and as the motorcycles approached, one of the motorcycles suddenly braked. One of the other motorcycles then crashed into the back of it. Florida Highway Patrol says both of the people riding on these two motorcycles were ejected from their bikes, after which a tractor-trailer struck them. A witness at the scene told reporters that the driver of the tractor-trailer tried to swerve but was not able to avoid the men. 

The Ocala StarBanner reports that both riders were tragically killed in the incident. They were reported to be men from Italy, but no other identifying information about them was released. No one else involved in the prior collision or the motorcycle accident was identified. 

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. At the time that the news report was posted online to the Ocala StarBanner website, no further details about the collision or the victims had been provided.
