GADSDEN COUNTY, FL. – According to a news report posted online at wtxl.com, a head-on collision that occurred on Interstate 10 in Gadsden County, Florida, injured a 15-year-old boy. In addition, authorities report that three other people sustained injuries in the accident, and one woman was cited for the wreck.*
The accident happened during the evening near mile marker 185 on I-10 West. Florida Highway Patrol and WTXL report that a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling east on the interstate and suddenly veered into the grass median. The Chevy then entered the westbound lanes of the interstate and crashed head-on into a westbound 2004 GMC Sierra.
It is unclear what led to the Chevy leaving its lane of travel and entering traffic bound in the opposite direction. Both vehicles came to a rest in the westbound lanes of I-10 after the impact, which caused a second collision between two tractor-trailers, according to the news report.
WTXL reports that the driver of the Chevy and a 15-year-old passenger in the Chevy were injured in the accident and taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for emergency care. Their injuries were described as serious. The driver was identified as a 38-year-old woman from Tampa, Florida.
In addition, WXTL reports that the driver of the GMC was injured in the wreck, and emergency responders took him or her to Capital Regional Medical Center. This driver was not identified, and his or her injuries were described as minor.
The driver of the one of the tractor-trailers was also injured, according to WTXL, and was transported to a local hospital. He or she was also not identified, and his or her injuries were also said to be minor.
Florida Highway Patrol says the driver of the Chevy was cited for careless driving.
