Head-On Vehicle Crash on U.S. 17 in Fleming Island, Florida, Causes Injuries to Three
FLEMING ISLAND, FL. – According to a news report posted online at news4jax.com, a head-on vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 17 in Fleming Island, Florida, resulted in injuries to three people. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers said the victims’ injuries were serious in nature, but they did not provide updated medical conditions.*
The accident took place in the late evening at the intersection with Town Center Boulevard on U.S. 17. Florida Highway Patrol and News 4 Jax report that at approximately 9:30 p.m., a GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling north on the highway, and the driver somehow lost control and entered the southbound lanes. It is not yet clear what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Upon entering the south lanes of the highway, the GMC crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. After impact, the GMC continued forward and came to a stop in the tree-lined area off of the highway. The Chevy rotated and came to a rest short of the trees.
News 4 Jax reports that the driver of the GMC was injured in the accident, and emergency crews took him to Orange Park Medical Center for treatment. Officials identified him as a 49-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida. His injuries were described as serious.
News 4 Jax further reports that the driver of the Chevy and a passenger in the Chevy were also transported to Orange Park Medical Center with injuries. Their injuries were described as critical. They were identified as a 65-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman from Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Troopers are still investigating this accident and say that charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
