Six Children are in Modesto, California Minivan Accident; Man from Georgia Involved in Accident

MODESTO, CA – According to an online news report at, six children in a minivan sustained injuries in an accident on Highway 99.  At least three of the children were unrestrained, including the child that sustained the most serious injuries.*

There were nine individuals in the Chrysler minivan, which can hold a maximum of eight people.  The minivan slammed into the rear end of a Chevrolet Tahoe going about forty five miles per hour in heavy traffic through Ceres, California, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred in the early afternoon close to Service Road.

The accident is currently being investigated to ascertain who was sitting in what seat and who was unrestrained.  The California Highway Patrol, based upon their preliminary investigation, has the following information:

A twelve year old boy and five year old boy were taken to  an out of area hospital via medical helicopter. The twelve year old appeared to not having been wearing his seatbelt.  As a result, he sustained a traumatic brain injury.  It is not known whether the five year old was unrestrained or not.  He suffered from lacerations to his head.

A two year old girl and a ten month year old were not in car seats. The two year old’s medical status is currently unknown.  The ten month year old only sustained abrasions in the crash.

Two eight year old boys were restrained and suffered only non-life threatening injuries.  The driver, a thirty year old man, was wearing his seatbelt and only sustained minor injuries.
It is unknown as to whether the two adult females in the vehicle were wearing their seatbelts.  The one woman, a thirty five year old, sustained a broken jaw and leg in the crash.  The other woman, aged thirty, only sustained minor injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet that was rear ended by the minivan, a sixty one year old man from Georgia, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
