Tragic Hit and Run Accident Kills Pedestrian in Bibb County, Georgia
BIBB COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at macon.com, a man from Macon, Georgia succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Pio Nono Avenue in Bibb County, Georgia.*
A man from Macon is dead after being struck by a vehicle as he was attempting to cross Pio Nono Avenue that is located in front of a Flash Foods convenience store close to Dewey Street earlier this week.
Emergency personnel that arrived on the scene found a fifty three year old man who was not responsive, per a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release. The man was taken to an area hospital where he ultimately died due to the extent of his injuries.
According to the police, the individual who hit the man was driving a silver four door sedan. This driver failed to stop and kept going north on Pio Nono Avenue following the crash.
The accident remains under information, and there is no further information available on the accident at this time.
“They’re still working to determine what happened,” a Bibb County Sheriff sergeant noted.
The man’s death is the fourth pedestrian fatality in Bibb County in 2019, according to the Bibb County Coroner. In 2018, there were fourteen total pedestrian deaths in Bibb County.
Across the nation, Georgia is among five states that account for about half of the six thousand two hundred twenty seven pedestrian fatalities that occurred back in 2018.
Nationwide, pedestrians and/or drivers that are impaired by alcohol accounted for approximately half the pedestrian fatalities back in 2017.
