Hit and Run Driver Hits Teenager Pushing a Scooter in Atlanta, Georgia

June 14, 2019

ATLANTA, GA – According to an online news report at fox5atlanta.com, a hit and run driver slammed into a teenager that was pushing a scooter.  The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.*

Per local police, the eighteen year old was located on a sidewalk going northbound on Piedmont Avenue which is located between Auburn Avenue and Edgewood Avenue.  According to investigators of the accident, a silver Cadillac exited the road for unknown reasons and collided with the teenager pushing a scooter.  The vehicle, after crashing into the teen, crashed into a utility pole and a street lamp. The car then hit into a second utility pole.

Emergency personnel transported the teenage victim to a local hospital where he is being treated for injuries to his leg.  He is currently listed as in stable condition and is expected to survive the accident.  The teenager is not a student at Georgia State University, which is located close to the site of the crash.

The driver who hit the teenager was wearing camouflage clothing at the time of the accident. Instead of stopping to render aid to the teenager, he fled the scene of the accident going north on Piedmont Avenue.  Police indicate that it is likely that the vehicle that struck the teenager was not stolen.

The accident caused two lanes of traffic on Piedmont Avenue to be closed during the night while emergency crews worked the scene.

A hit and run accident is defined as one in which an individual leaves the scene of an accident with intention and fails to render aid to the victim(s) thereof.  This can occur even when the hit and run driver was not at fault for the accident. More likely than not, hit and runs occur when a driver slams into an automobile or person and then leaves the scene of the accident.  Or, the driver hits a parked car and then flees the incident scene.
