Mother and Daughter From Augusta Tragically Killed in Boating Accident Over the Weekend
AUGUSTA, GA – According to an online news report augustachronicle.com, a mother and her daughter died in a boating accident that occurred over the weekend.*
The Lauderdale County Coroner has confirmed that the mother, aged thirty seven, and her daughter, aged five, were involved in a boating accident located at the mouth of Shoals Creeks, right off of Wilson Lake in Alabama. The accident occurred in the late morning.
Another individual, a man aged thirty three, was also in the boat and is currently listed as in critical condition. The man’s son was also transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The four individuals were located in a small recreational boat when it collided with a larger cabin cruiser, per a police spokesperson. The girl and her mother are currently at the forensics laboratory of the Alabama Department of Public Health where an autopsy will be performed. The mother worked for a creative firm and advertising agency located in Augusta. The company has issued a Facebook statement:
“We are heartbroken at the loss of [the mother] and [her daughter]” the post said. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out in prayer and support, we need it. Please continue to pray for [their] family and the many people their lives touched.”
The daughter was a pre-K student at a local Augusta elementary school.
According to a statement issued by the elementary school, “[w]e are all deeply saddened by this tragic event,” the statement said. “As the school community processes the tragic news and copes with grief, we will offer resources and services to support all of our students and staff.”
