Tragic Accident Results in the Death of One; Four Others are Injured

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – According to an online news report at, a woman from Fort Lauderdale died and four others were injured in a crash that occurred close to the Coral Ridge Mall. The accident is being investigated a potential driving under the influence incident.*

A woman from Fort Lauderdale died and four others were injured after an accident that occurred this past weekend.  It is possible that the accident involved a driver who was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.

The woman, aged seventy two, was a passenger of a Cadillac sports utility vehicle that was going eastbound on East Oakland Park Boulevard.  The vehicle was making a left turn onto Northeast 26thAvenue, per a Fort Lauderdale Police spokesperson.  

The Cadillac did not yield when turning left and crashed into a Mercedes-Benz sedan that was going westbound on Oakland Park Boulevard. 

Due to the nature of the accident, the Fort Lauderdale Police requested that a DUI Unit be dispatched to the accident scene.

According to the police spokesperson,  “this is an ongoing investigation. Charges are pending.”

The accident occurred east of Federal Highway close to the entrance of the Coral Ridge Mall.  Due to the crash, several roadways in the vicinity were close to traffic as emergency crews worked the scene.

Emergency personnel transported five people to an area hospital where the seventy two year old died.  The four others taken to the hospital only sustained non-life threatening injuries.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The accident remains under investigation by the local police.  Pictures of the accident released by the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue show a wrecked sedan and SUV.
