Motorcycle Rider Admitted to Hospital after Colliding with Car

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A motorcycle rider collided with a car in Clearwater, Florida. The accident sent the rider to a local hospital with injuries according to a report filed by News Channel 8.The motorcyclist sustained injuries authorities described as severe. The authorities did not comment about the medical condition of the operator of the motor vehicle also involved in the crash. Clearwater Police said that the accident happened in or near the intersection of South Fort Harrison Avenue and Turner Street. Officials continue to investigate the facts surrounding the crash, and there was no information available whether the police issued criminal charges. * 

Details of the motorcycle crash that happened Thursday evening in Clearwater were scarce. Police said that the motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries in the wreck. Consequently, emergency medical service personnel transported the rider to Bayfront Health, located in St. Petersburg. The hospital did not comment on the current condition of the motorcycle rider. Additionally, authorities did not provide any biographical information about the motorcyclist, including gender, age, name, or where the rider lives.

Clearwater Police closed South Fort Harrison Avenue between Chestnut and Pine Streets to conduct their investigation and clear the scene of debris. There was no definitive information on how long the police were on scene conducting their inquiry.

According to the most recent reports available from Florida Law Enforcement as appearing on the Florida FIRES portal, between 32,000 and 35,000 motor vehicle crashes happen every month. To this point in June 2019, law enforcement in Florida responded to over 3,600 accidents. These reports do not distinguish between motorcycles and other vehicles involved. Overall in 2019, law enforcement in Florida responded to 168,517 crashes. Those figures included motor vehicles, commercial trucks, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents. At this time, 1,308 people have perished in auto wrecks in 2019 in Florida.
