June 10, 2019

DURHAM, NC. – According to a news report posted online at cbs17.com, a hit-and-run accident on S. Miami Boulevard in Durham, North Carolina, caused serious injuries to a victim. The news report says that a pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident, and a man later turned himself in to police in connection with the incident.*

The accident occurred early in the morning in the 4500 block of S. Miami Boulevard. The Durham Police Department and CBS 17 report that a tractor-trailer was traveling on the roadway at about 2:30 a.m. and struck a pedestrian. The driver of the tractor-trailer then left the scene, according to officers.

Witnesses reported to police that the pedestrian had run into traffic before the accident, and that the truck driver stopped briefly after hitting the pedestrian, then continued to drive southbound on S. Miami. The circumstances of the accident have not been confirmed.

CBS 17 reports that the pedestrian suffered critical injuries, and emergency responders took him or her to a local hospital for treatment. The pedestrian was identified as a 31-year-old man from Connecticut. His injuries were believed to be life-threatening according to the report, but police officers said he was recovering.

Police began looking for the missing truck driver, and later the same day, police say a 35-year-old man from Durham surrendered at a magistrate’s office. The man was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run involving serious injury. His bond was placed at $5,000. The news report did not say whether he had posted bond.
