Traffic Accident Reported on Hwy 12 on Pea Island, North Carolina

PEA ISLAND, NC. – According to a news story reported online at islandfreepress.org, a traffic accident was reported on North Carolina Highway 12 on Pea Island, North Carolina. No information was reported regarding the details of the accident or whether anyone was injured in the accident. The highway was reportedly closed down for a period of time.*

The accident occurred in the afternoon near Rodanthe on Highway 12. The news report said it was a “bad traffic accident” but did not say how many vehicles were involved or what kinds of vehicles were involved. No vehicle makes or models were reported. The report also did not say how the crash occurred or what circumstances might have led to the accident. 

Island Free Press reported that bystanders described the incident as a major accident with one vehicle, but this information was not confirmed by authorities. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, though it is not clear if this included paramedics. The report did not say whether anyone was injured in the wreck, and no one involved was identified by officials.

It is unclear what investigating agency will be handling the case. No further details about the crash or the nature of the crash were reported. Island Free Press stated that it would provide updated information as soon as it became available. 

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, more than 275,000 traffic accidents occurred in the state during 2017. This represented an increase of nearly 3 percent from the prior year. Almost 128,000 people were injured in these accidents, and close to 1,400 people were tragically killed in the accidents.
