Hit-and-Run Vehicle Crash on Hamilton E. Holmes Dr. in Atlanta, Georgia, Causes Tragic Death of Passenger
ATLANTA, GA. – According to a news report posted online at ajc.com, a hit-and-run vehicle crash that occurred on Hamilton E. Holmes Drive in Atlanta, Georgia, caused the tragic death of a passenger. The passenger was reportedly riding in a vehicle that fled from police officers who tried to stop it earlier for a traffic violation.*
The accident happened in the evening at the crossing of Hamilton E. Holmes and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Georgia State Patrol and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that a silver Dodge Charger was involved in a three-vehicle crash at this location after eluding police officers. Police had attempted to stop the Charger when they observed it traveling with a tag that belonged to another vehicle.
Before officers could make the stop, the vehicle sped off. This was at about 7:30 p.m. Officers did not pursue the vehicle, and not long after, they came upon the three-vehicle crash and recognized the Charger from earlier. The driver of the Charger was not present at the scene, having apparently fled on foot. It is not clear how the crash happened.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that a passenger in the Charger was critically injured and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he tragically died. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as a 20-year-old man.
The other persons involved in the accident were not seriously injured, according to the news report. Authorities are still trying to locate the driver of the Charger and are asking that anyone who has information contact Crime Stoppers. Information that leads to a suspect could be rewarded with $2,000.
