Train Collision in Boynton Beach, Florida, Results in Tragic Death of Pedestrian

BOYNTON BEACH, FL. – According to a news story reported online at, a train collision that took place in Boynton Beach, Florida, resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian. Little information about the circumstances of the accident was released in the news story, and authorities are still investigating.*

The accident occurred in the late afternoon on the Florida East Coast Railway line in Boynton Beach. Near the crossing at Gateway Boulevard, a passenger train somehow struck a pedestrian. It is not clear how the accident happened or where the pedestrian was at the time of the collision. The report did not say whether the person was walking on the tracks. 

The Sun Sentinel reports that the pedestrian was tragically killed in the accident. The victim was identified as a male, but his age and city of residence were not released by investigating officials. 

The train involved is part of Virgin Trains USA, according to the report. The report did not say where the train was traveling, and it is not clear how many people, if any, were on the train when the accident happened. No other injuries were reported. 

Following the collision, crews shut down both directions of travel on Gateway Boulevard to allow for investigating at the scene. The roadway remained closed for about two hours, according to the report. 

Investigation is ongoing, and no further information was released in the Sun Sentinel news report. It is not clear if any agency other than the Boynton Beach Police Department will be opening an investigation.
