Deadly Motorcycle Crash Reported on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report posted at patch.com, a deadly motorcycle crash has been reported to have occurred on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The accident involved three vehicles, including the motorcycle, a parked car, and a tractor-trailer, according to the report.*
The crash occurred on I-85 South in between the exits to Hamilton Mill Road and Highway 211. Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department say that a motorcyclist was headed north in the left shoulder of I-85 South. It is not clear why the motorcyclist was riding in the shoulder against traffic.
The motorcyclist came upon a car that was parked and unoccupied facing south in the shoulder, and he reportedly tried to veer away from the car. He was not able to swerve in time and crashed into the car, which was described as a Nissan Altima. The impact ejected the motorcyclist from the bike, and he landed in the right southbound lane of the interstate.
Police officers report that a southbound tractor-trailer then hit the motorcyclist in the roadway. Patch reports that the motorcyclist was tragically killed in the accident. Authorities identified him as a 25-year-old man from Maysville, Georgia.
In addition, Patch reports that a second person had been riding on the motorcycle with the victim, and this person was able to escape the bike before it hit the parked Nissan. Patch says the motorcycle passenger “narrowly survived’ and sustained minor injuries in the incident.
The Gwinnett County Police Department is still in the process of investigating the accident.
