Tragic, Fatal Accident Reported on Hwy 247 in Bibb County, Georgia
BIBB COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report posted online at 41nbc.com, a tragic, fatal accident was reported to have occurred on Highway 247 in Bibb County, Georgia. A man was struck by a vehicle on the highway as he was attempting to retrieve an item that fell off his vehicle, according to the news report.*
The accident happened near Griffin Road on Highway 247 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and 41 NBC report that a vehicle was traveling on the highway and lost a ladder that had been on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle pulled over, and a passenger got out to try to grab the ladder from the highway.
When the passenger stepped into the highway, he was struck by a passing truck. It is not clear what direction the vehicles were traveling or why the ladder fell from the first vehicle.
41 NBC reports that the passenger who tried to retrieve the ladder was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon, where he tragically died from his injuries. Officials identified him as a 54-year-old man.
The news report says that no one else sustained injuries in the accident. No one else involved in the incident was identified in the news report.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident, and deputies have not said whether charges are anticipated. Deputies are asking anyone with information about the accident to contact the sheriff’s office at (478) 751-7500 or Crime Stoppers at (877) 68-CRIME.
