Motorcycle Crash on I-85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia, Results in Man’s Tragic Death

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – According to a news story reported online at gwinnettdailypost.com, a motorcycle crash that occurred on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia, resulted in a man’s tragic death. The motorcycle hit a disabled vehicle on the interstate, according to the news story, after which the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike.*

The accident took place near Hamilton Mill Road and Highway 211 on Interstate 85. The Gwinnett County Police Department and the Gwinnett Daily Post report that a motorcycle was traveling north on I-85, riding in the southbound shoulder of the roadway. The motorcycle approached a disabled Nissan Altima in the shoulder, and the motorcyclist attempted to swerve to avoid a crash. 

The motorcyclist was unable to swerve out of the way, however, and ended up striking the Nissan. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike into a southbound lane of the interstate. The Gwinnett Daily Post reports the motorcyclist was thereafter struck by a southbound tractor-trailer, and he tragically died from his injuries. He was identified as a 25-year-old man from Maysville, Georgia. 

A passenger had been riding on the motorcycle, as well, and the news report states this person was able to jump off of the bike before it hit the Nissan. The unidentified passenger sustained minor injuries, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. The Nissan was not occupied at the time of the accident, and it is not clear if anyone in the tractor-trailer was injured. 

Police are still investigating, and officers have not yet said why the motorcycle was traveling north in the south shoulder.
