Vehicle Crash on Rankin Ave. in Dunlap, Tennessee, Causes Tragic Death of Motorcyclist
DUNLAP, TN. – According to a news report posted online at newschannel9.com, a vehicle crash on Rankin Avenue in Dunlap, Tennessee, caused the tragic death of a motorcyclist. Investigators say that the accident occurred during a left-hand turn, and two other people sustained injuries in the collision.*
The accident happened during the afternoon in the 17000 block of Rankin Avenue. Tennessee Highway Patrol and News Channel 9 report that a motorcycle was traveling south on U.S. Highway 127/Rankin Avenue. A truck heading north on the roadway then attempted to make a left turn and pulled into the path of the motorcycle.
The two vehicles collided outside of 17330 Rankin Avenue. It is not yet clear what caused the accident or what factors might have been involved in the collision.
News Channel 9 reports that the driver of the motorcycle tragically died of his injuries. He was identified as a 64-year-old man from Addison, Alabama. In addition, according to News Channel 9, a female passenger on the motorcycle and the driver of the truck sustained injuries. They were not identified, and their current conditions were not reported.
Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating, and no charges have been announced. Drug and alcohol tests will be performed to rule those out as potential contributors to the accident, according to the report. Results are pending.
Following the crash, Troopers posted a message on social media, saying, “[Trooper] Richardson had to work a fatal crash today in Dunlap involving a motorcycle. Please please look twice and three times for motorcycles.”
