ROBERTSDALE, AL. – According to a news report posted online at wkrg.com, a tragic, fatal motorcycle accident occurred on County Road 71 in Robertsdale, Alabama. The news report says that authorities suspect alcohol played a role in the collision, and one of the drivers has been charged with driving under the influence.*
The accident happened in the afternoon near Highway 90 on County Road 71. The Robertsdale Police Department says that a 1997 Honda motorcycle was traveling south on the roadway and experienced unknown mechanical issues. The motorcyclist reportedly pulled over onto the side of the road to inspect the bike.
Police say a northbound 2014 Jeep (model not reported) traveling near the area where the motorcycle was pulled over crossed over the centerline of County Road 71, traveled into the southbound lane, then struck the motorcyclist.
WKRG reports that the motorcyclist was tragically killed in the accident. The report also states that police suspected the driver of the Jeep was impaired, and officers arrested him. WKRG says the driver was booked into the Baldwin County Jail on charges of driving under the influence and is being held without bond. It is not clear when the suspect’s next court hearing will take place.
The victim’s father told reporters that he was grieving the loss of his son but was not going to let anger take over.
“Life is so short, you just don’t realize,” the father said. “I couldn’t blame [the other driver]. I could, but I won’t. I don’t believe in that.”
