Man Tragically Dies in Single-Vehicle Accident on U.S. 27 in Floyd County, Georgia
FLOYD COUNTY, GA. – According to a news report published online at northwestgeorgianews.com, a man tragically died in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 27 in Floyd County, Georgia. The man’s pickup truck rolled several times after leaving the highway for unknown reasons.*
The accident happened in the evening near the Polk County, Georgia, line on U.S. 27. The Floyd County Police Department and the Rome News-Tribune report that a Chevrolet Silverado truck was traveling south on U.S. 27, when the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle. The pickup truck traveled into the grass median of the four-lane highway and then began rolling.
According to police, the truck rolled multiple times, then came to a stop in a private driveway off of the north side of U.S. 27. The news report says that the truck was in the upright position when it stopped, and the driveway appeared to be outside of a vacant home.
The Rome News-Tribune reports that the driver of the Chevy truck tragically died at the scene. The Floyd County Coroner’s opened an investigation into the accident, and officials identified the victim as a 27-year-old man from Chattooga County, Georgia. The report did not mention any passengers as having been in the truck at the time of the wreck.
Crews shut down the northbound side of the highway for about two hours after the crash to perform on-scene investigation. The Floyd County Police Department is still reviewing the case, and officers had not released information regarding a potential cause for the accident at the time the Rome News-Tribune published the news story online.
