Woman Tragically Killed in Vehicle Crash in Aiken County, South Carolina
AIKEN COUNTY, SC. – According to an online news story reported by wrdw.com, a woman was tragically killed in a vehicle accident in Aiken County, South Carolina. The woman was reportedly driving with her infant daughter in the vehicle, and the infant sustained injuries in the accident. South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.*
The accident occurred in the early evening on Interstate 20 in Aiken County. South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers and WRDW report that shortly before 6 p.m., a 2012 Kia SUV (model not reported) was traveling east on I-20 and somehow left the roadway near mile marker 35. It is not clear what caused the vehicle to run off the road.
After departing from the road, the Kia reportedly traveled into the median and crashed into a tree. It does not appear from the news report that any other vehicles were involved in the accident. Troopers investigating the accident are not yet sure what caused the collision or what factors might have been at play.
WRDW reports that the driver of the Kia was tragically killed in the accident. She was identified as a 27-year-old woman from Lancaster, South Carolina.
WRDW further reports that the woman’s 1-year-old daughter was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and sustained injuries. The child was taken to Augusta University Medical Center, where her injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Troopers are still in the process of reviewing the case, and at the time the WRDW report was published, they had not released further information.
