Drivers Seeking Changes at South Macon Intersection Following a Fatal Accident

May 31, 2019

MACON, GA — According to an online news report at 13wmaz.com, a fatal accident occurred that has area residents concerned about a Macon, Georgia intersection.*

A fatal accident has left south Macon residents concerned about a dangerous intersection located within the town.  There are several things that residents want in order to feel safer on Macon roads.

Earlier this week during the late evening, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office noted that a twenty six year old man was attempting to negotiate a curve on Rocky Creek Road close to St. Charles Place.  At this time, the man’s vehicle went into the opposite lane of traffic, crashing into an 18-wheeler.  The driver was operating a Ford Mustang at the time of the accident. He later perished at an area hospital soon after being transported thereto.  The driver of the 18-wheeler did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

In his honor, residents have put out balloons close to the intersection where he was killed in order to remember him. "For anyone that's coming along these roads and all of that, just take your time. You don't need to be in a rush because things like this could easily happen," said one local resident.

Another resident notes that he is hoping that more street lamps are installed and that drivers slow down in order to better see what’s in front of them as well as to maintain complete control of their vehicles.  “I've done come around that corner and it's real easy to lose it," said the town resident.

According to records maintained by the local sheriff’s office, an accident occurred on Interstate 75 southbound close to the Rocky Creek Road exit about two weeks prior to the most recent accident.  Another crash occurred in the same vicinity about a month ago.

The two residents noted above state that they want increasing efforts to ensure the safety of drivers on Georgia roadways. "Be safe coming up and down these roads here because this is dangerous," one of the residents said.

Per the Macon-Bibb coroner, this is the above accident is the thirteenth in the county in 2019.
