Teenager Dead Following Memorial Day Weekend Crash in Laurens County, Georgia

LAURENS COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at wgxa.tv, a resident of Laurens County tragically died in an accident during the Memorial Day weekend.*

Per the online report, a Laurens County resident succumbed to their injuries in a crash that occurred during Memorial Day weekend.   According to a sergeant from the Georgia State Patrol, a nineteen year old was operating a 2008 Ford Fusion and somehow lost control of their car while on an unpaved road.  Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle due to the impact of the crash.

The accident occurred in a southerly direction from JJ Club Road.  The Georgia State Patrol notes that the car slammed into a ditch and turned over following the driver’s loss of control of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash however, a passenger, a fourteen year old boy, tragically died at the scene of the accident.  He was pronounced dead shortly after emergency personnel arrived at the crash site.

Per the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction team, they are looking into the cause of the accident. According to the sergeant from the Georgia State Patrol, the nineteen year old driver of the vehicle may face charges.

The fourteen year old passenger was a student at West Laurens Middle School.  The family of the deceased boy, coordinated by the West Laurens Middle School, is taking donations to help them with the expenses for the boy’s funeral. 

The accident remains under investigation by local police.  There are no further details available on the crash at this time.

According to the National Safety Council, about three hundred eighty people die on United States roads during the Memorial Day weekend.  The reason for these deaths have a lot to do with alcohol consumption.  With the celebrations associated with Memorial Day, it is common for people to be consuming alcohol, which is a major contributing factor to vehicular crashes.  Distracted driving is also a contributing factor in these crashes.
