Car Rear-Ends Tractor in Spartanburg, South Carolina; One Tragically Killed, One Injured
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story reported online at foxcarolina.com, a car rear-ended a tractor in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to another. South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident to determine its cause.*
The crash happened in the evening on U.S. Highway 221 in Spartanburg County. Fox Carolina and South Carolina Highway Patrol Troopers report that at about 6:10 p.m., a farm tractor was traveling south on the highway, when it was rear-ended near the crossing with Old Switzer Road.
No description of the tractor was reported. The car that crashed into the back of the tractor was described as a 2015 Lexus, but the model was not reported. It is not yet clear what caused the Lexus to strike the back of the tractor.
Fox Carolina reports that the driver of the Lexus was ejected from the vehicle during the impact and died at the scene of the accident. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified him as a man from Laurens County, South Carolina. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred.
In addition, Fox Carolina reports the operator of the farm tractor was injured in the accident, and emergency crews took him or her to a nearby hospital for treatment. This person was not identified in the report.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is still reviewing the accident and has not released information about the cause of the collision. A standard toxicology analysis is pending, Troopers said.
